Coffee Guide

Coffee is by far the most popular hot drink in the world ( though I suspect that here in the UK it is Tea) and is a good way to round off a nice meal. There are two species of coffee plant, Arabica and Robusta, with Arabica being preffered for its taste but Robusta being popular for its higher caffine content. IThe coffee making process conststs of roasting the beans with ‘lighter roast’ coffee’s containing more of the origianl flavour compared to the ‘dark roast’ cofees where the roast flavour is more predominant. Once roasted, the coffee bean is usually gound into a powder before being soldIf you’re a big coffee fan then you may enjoy trying some of these drink recipes:

Chilled Mocha Cream

Ingredients: 2 tablespoon of drinking chocolate
2 espresso’s (cold)
3 tablespoons of boiling water
900ml (1.5 lints) of cold milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
2 tablespoons of whipped double (heavy) cream
4 tablespoons of grated chocolate
  • Mix the water with the drinking chocolate to form a smooth paste
  • whisk in milk and vanilla
  • pour in the cold espress
  • Pour into 4 tall glasses
  • Top each one with cream and gratd chocolate

Irish Coffee

To make Scotch coffee simply use Scotch whisky instead!

Ingredients: 2 tablespoon of Irish whiskey
2 teaspoons of brown sugar
freshly made strong coffee
Double (heavy) cream
  • Pour coffee into cup
  • Add the sugar and whiskey to the coffee
  • top up with an inch of the cream

Spanish Coffee

To make Spanish coffee, use the above recipe but substitute the whiskey with sherry.

Russian Coffee

To make Russian coffee, use the above recipe but substitute the whiskey with vodka.

Jamaican Coffee

To make Jamaican coffee, use the above recipe but substitute the whiskey with rum.

Ingredients:  
450ml (three quarters of a pint) milk
300ml (half pint) freshly made strong (double strength) coffee
2 tablespoons of whipped double (heavy) cream
  • Mix the coffee with the milk
  • Add sugar if desired
  • Chill
  • Pour into 3 glasses and mix with swirl of cream
